Bob Munden loved entertaining and teaching you, thinking up new ways to blow your minds and make you laugh in live exhibitions or for television — and he would love that you helped make his memorial possible.

Memorial plaques made of other materials might be damaged fairly easily; however, one made of bronze could better stand the test of time, likely as long as Bob’s professional shooting career, which began in the 1950s in Big Bear, California when he was 11 years old. The goal is to raise funds for an etched bronze, memorial plaque featuring Bob’s image, his bullet-in-flight signature, along with a brief history of his amazing shooting career.

The historic Butte Gun Club (est. 1895) has offered to install it in their Schützenhaus (shooting house) where students from all over attended Bob Munden’s School of the Fast Gun. It is an honor. Next to the building is the spot where Bob did some of his most of his most talked-about exhibition shots for television, including the 200-yard shot with a S&W .38 snubby.

Since Bob passed away December 10th at age 70, many friends and fans have asked what they can do to support Bob’s best friend Becky Munden, who was his shooting partner in performances from 1968 – 2011.

Becky has lost her one true love but Bob always said she was stronger than she looked and so far she has not let him down. Though well-made bronze plaques don’t come cheap, Becky would very much like to see this Bob Munden memorial come to be, and it can happen with your support at crowdfunding site Indiegogo.com.

The goal is to raise $3,500 to include freight for the memorial plaque from Tennessee to Montana, where it would be installed at the historic Butte Gun Club (est. 1895) just West of Butte, Montana. An honor.

See the list of contribution thank-you gifts, or “perks”, including newly completed items. Becky will be happy to send them to contributors.

Finally, please kindly spread the word to other Bob Munden fans about this effort to commission a bronze memorial. You can do that on your own of course, or use the Indiegogo share tools!

Bob and Becky Munden’s last promotional photo as a shooting duo. Bob passed away four months ago today on December 10th.

A Celebration of the Life and Times of Bob Munden will take place in Butte, Montana June 16th, 2013.

At High Noon on Sunday at the Butte Gun Club, where Bob did so much of the impossible exhibition shooting fans love, Becky plans to ask special guests to fire one at a time a shot for every year of Bob’s life — for a total of 70 shots. It will be a “Six-Gun” salute.

Becky plans to fire the first round. Munden’s Six-Gun Magic gunsmith Jeff Ault will shoot the final round.

The salute will take place just outside the historic Schützenhaus (shooting house) where Bob famously did his shots with a S&W Model 60 and a .22 caliber buckle gun off-hand at steel targets 200 yards away. The Schützenhaus was the location for Munden’s School of the Fast Gun, held annually beginning in 1993.

Hosted by the Butte Gun Club (established in 1895,) the public is invited to attend this memorial shooting event honoring Bob Munden, described as one of the greatest ambassadors for the shooting sports.

Butte, Montana, USA

Bob Munden Has Died

Bob Munden, known perhaps equally as a fierce Fast-Draw competitor who was recognized by Guinness World Records as The Fastest Man with a Gun Who Ever Lived, as an exhibition shooter of the highest order with handguns, rifles and shotguns; an entertainer as well as a master gunsmith who developed groundbreaking methods of customizing to perfection the beloved .45 caliber single action revolver and other guns, died Monday of a heart attack.

Munden’s wife and performance partner Becky said Tuesday she was driving home with Bob after treatment at a Missoula hospital for what doctors described as a mild heart attack. At some point between Missoula and their home of Butte, Bob mentioned he was experiencing chest pains, told Becky to keep on driving, and died.

The 70-year-old shooting sports superstar was pronounced dead upon arrival at St. James Heathcare in Butte.

Born February 8, 1942 in Kansas City, Mo, Bob began his professional shooting career at age 11 in Big Bear Lake, Calif. While still in high school, Bob placed 2nd in a competition known as the Leatherslap. After years of competing in Fast Draw, Bob and Becky performed together beginning in 1968, emphasizing the importance of gun safety when they went on tour in 1969 for the National School Assembly Program. Depending on the venue, Bob and Becky continued to perform together shooting blanks or with live ammunition across the United States, in New Zealand and London, England. As recently as 2011 the Mundens put on their live-ammunition exhibition at locations in California and Kansas.

Over the years Bob, often with Becky who is also a champion shooter, appeared on many television shows, most famously American Shooter, Ripley’s Believe it or Not, Shooting USA, and Shooting USA’s Impossible Shots. Munden can be found all over YouTube and appears in entertaining and instructional DVDs including Bob Munden: Outrageous Shooting and Bob Munden: The Collector’s Edition.

At age 68 Munden appeared on Stan Lee’s Superhumans on the History Channel. The episode shows a scientist reporting that Munden’s hand withstands 10 Gs of force when he draws and fires his gun from the holster. Viewers learn that as a comparison, jet pilots are trained to withstand 9 Gs, and that Bob is “faster than a rattlesnake.” In a demo during the same show, Munden draws and shoots two balloons six feet apart with two shots that sound virtually like one.

Just eight weeks ago today, at the Butte Gun Club range for Midland Radio Corporation, Munden did exhibition shooting with a .45 caliber single action and Colt 1911 semi-automatic pistol. Bob Munden & Midland XTC High Definition Action Camera – YouTube

Registered as members #118 and #119 respectively, Bob and Becky entertained at the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) End of Trail World Championships of Cowboy Action Shooting 30 times with what Becky proudly said was the most complex presentation ever offered at an exhibition shooting show. She added that Bob was Cowboy Action Shooting’s first gunsmith.

Becky said, “We had an incredible, memorable life together.”

She also said that of all the in-arguably amazing shots Bob achieved during his lifetime of speed shooting, precision shooting and showmanship with handguns, rifles and shotguns; his opening a safety pin, hitting a target 600 yards away, throwing a knife with a bullet and others all accomplished with handguns and practiced mostly in his imagination rather than at the range, Bob was definite that splitting a playing card in he threw into the air was most difficult.

Bob is survived by his wife Becky, his daughters Natalie and Mitzi; grandson Levi, granddaughter Kaycee, his mother; three brothers and a sister; nieces, nephews, friends and millions of fans.

According to Bob’s wishes his remains will be cremated. A memorial and celebration of life is to be scheduled during warmer weather in 2013. A small event for local neighbors and friends will take place in Butte in the near future. Information about both events will be posted here and at the official Facebook Fan Page.
